KAROSHI, THE JAPANESE TERM FOR “DEATH BY OVERWORK,” EXPOSES THE HUMAN COST OF RELENTLESS PRODUCTIVITY AND SOCIETAL PRESSURE. THIS COLLECTION EXPLORES EXHAUSTION, BURNOUT, AND THE GRADUAL EROSION OF IDENTITY WITHIN JAPAN’S DEMANDING WORK CULTURE. INSPIRED BY MY MOTHER’S LIVED EXPERIENCE IN JAPAN, EACH GARMENT EMBODIES BOTH VULNERABILITY AND RESILIENCE, HONORING THE OFTEN UNSEEN STRENGTH OF PEOPLE NAVIGATING SYSTEMS BUILT ON ENDURANCE. AT ITS CORE, THE COLLECTION REFLECTS AN ONGOING FASCINATION WITH THE HUMAN CONDITION AND THE QUIET FORCES THAT SHAPE OUR LIVES.
